Install YTGrab for Chrome
Chrome's Web Store no longer accepts YouTube-downloader extensions, so we distribute the YTGrab Chrome build directly. It's the same code we ship to Firefox and Edge — just installed manually.
Step 1 — Download
The Chrome sideload build isn't available right now. Please use Firefox or Edge for the moment, or check back shortly.
Step 2 — Install (60s)
- Unzip the file somewhere you won't move later — for example,
~/Applications/ytgrab/on macOS orC:\Tools\ytgrab\on Windows. Chrome reads the extension from this folder every time it starts. - Open a new tab and visit
chrome://extensions. - Toggle Developer mode in the top-right corner.
- Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder.
- Pin the YTGrab icon to your toolbar (puzzle-piece menu → pin).
Step 3 — Try it
Open any YouTube video and use one of three actions: click the YTGrab toolbar icon, right-click a YouTube link → "Send to YTGrab," or press Alt+Shift+G (Cmd+Shift+G on macOS). A new tab will open at youtubegrab.com with the video ready to grab.
Why does Chrome warn me on startup?
Chrome shows a "Disable developer-mode extensions" warning when you open the browser. That's expected for any extension installed outside the Chrome Web Store, and it does not affect the extension's behavior. You can click Cancel on the warning to keep the extension enabled. If you prefer to avoid the warning, install on Microsoft Edge or Firefox — both ship YouTubeGrab from their official add-on stores.
Why isn't this on the Chrome Web Store?
Google removed all YouTube-downloader extensions from the Chrome Web Store in 2025 under their Content Policies. Firefox, Edge, and direct install are unaffected. We chose to keep building the tool rather than gut its functionality for one store.
